Dr. Paul Perito Discusses the Coloplast Titan CL Reservoir

In a study presented at the Sexual Medicine Society of North America Conference (2011), Dr. Paul Perito offered evidence that the Coloplast Titan CL reservoir has an ease of implantation that rivals or surpasses previous reservoir designs.

According to Dr. Paul Perito, the Coloplast Titan CL reservoir was designed for ease of surgical placement. This allows for minimal dissection during the installation of the device. Its four lobed design makes for a lower profile.

The CL reservoirs were implanted using standardized care procedures, says Dr. Paul Perito. The attending physicians were asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their experience implanting the CL reservoir. Findings suggest that implantation of the CL was executed with the same relative level of ease as previous comparable devices. Dr. Paul Perito notes that the study utilized 18 implant centers from March to July 2011.

Dr. Paul Perito believes that by enhancing the reservoir design on the IPP’s to allow placement via a single incision, both patients and physicians will ultimately be more satisfied with the procedure. The design of the CL reservoir utilizes a cloverleaf shape which, when placed outside the space of retzius, may be an excellent alternative to traditional pump system reservoirs, reports Dr. Paul Perito.

The new cloverleaf design allows physicians such as Dr. Paul Perito to under fill the reservoir, which may result in a more aesthetically pleasing result to the patient as well as less chance for autoinflation. The flexibility of the CL’s placement is important to surgeons, as they are able to customize the implant for the patient’s specific anatomical design. Physicians now have the capability to balance fluid between the cylinders and the reservoir, which will help to maximize erection size, leading to greater patient satisfaction. In Dr. Paul Perito’s infrapubic approach, the reservoir was is often placed ectopically, posterior to the abdominal wall muscles and anterior to the transversalis fascia.

Coloplast’ Titan penile implant is made from a compound of silicone and Bioflex and is a self-contained IPP. Dr. Paul Perito only uses this device as well as the Titan cylinders when performing his minimally invasive penile implant surgeries.
